What happened to Searstown?

By January 22, 2024No Comments

The plans have changed.

If you’re reading this email, you probably spend a lot of time driving up & down US-1 in Fort Lauderdale (waving to us at RoxFire as you zip by!).

No, we’re not always closed (we have curtains that block outside light, creating a nightclub atmosphere for our workouts).

Yes, we are the best rated boutique fitness studio in FTL (according to Google).

Yes, that was a flex 💪🏻…

Anyways, if you’re like us (running like mad-people around the block) you’re probably wondering what the heck happened to Searstown?

Why is it a pile of rubble?

Well, you’re in luck! We’ve got the deets of what’s going on:

  • Searstown in Fort Lauderdale is being replaced by “901 North”, a three-tower project.

  • Demolition of the Sears building started in September and is expected to complete in January 2024 (this checks out)

  • The development, by Aimco, features 797 apartments, a 188-room hotel, and amenities like shops and a gym (watch out Amped Fitness!).

  • The site was purchased by Aimco for $64 million in June 2022.

  • The project, set to begin in 2025, includes towers up to 353 feet high.

  • Previously, RK Centers owned the property and planned a different, larger project.

  • Mayor Dean Trantalis has expressed concerns about traffic and neighborhood impact.

Now, with the demolition done and the project set to begin…next year? It makes me wonder what they have planned for the rest of this year. Will they get going earlier? We’ll keep you updated!

Speaking of which, welcome to the RoxFire Rundown, our new weekly newsletter.

We’ll be keeping you updated on what’s happening in and around RoxFire in Fort Lauderdale.

Next week, we’ll share with you our favorite Kava Bar (if you don’t know what kava is, we’ll enlighten you!) in the area…till then, feel free to jump into a free week with us and you too can run like a mad-person around the block!

Stay looking great naked,
